Dance Workshop: Mbalax (Senegal)

Malick Ndiaye from Senegal will give a dance workshop of Senegalese mbalax dance at Fest Afrika Spring Jam!
Mbalax is the characteristic Senegalese pop music style, made known worldwide by artists such as Youssou Ndour. The mbalax dance is based on traditional sabar dancing, but is influenced by many other urban dance styles. New dance movements are created all the time – Malick will teach us the latest moves straight from the street and clubs of Dakar!
The workshop will take place on Sunday 20th and Monday 21st April at 16.30 – 18.00
Place: Tampereen flamencoyhdistys, Pirkankatu 1 (entrance from Mariankatu)
Price: 16 euro / one class, 30 euro / both classes

About the teacher
Malick Ndiaye is a professional dancer from Senegal, who represent the new generation of sabar dancers in Dakar. Malick uses influences from other dance styles for his own choreographies, but he has also been part of Senegal’s most famous sabar dance crews, e.g. those of Ndeye Gueye, Pape Moussa Sonko ja Mbathio Ndiaye. Malick has been teaching sabar and mbalax dancing already in Dakar, and after he moved to Helsinki, Finland in early 2013, he has given classes in both Finland and Sweden.
