Azonto / Nana & Laura

Azonto is a popular, communicative dance that originated in Ghana, West Africa. Azonto has become known all around the world as a trademark of Ghana. It was born in social gatherings, where people were having fun and enjoying the time. Its essence is fun and it depicts our everyday activities, for example driving a car, washing clothes or asking a girl out.

Fest Afrika presents the first ever azonto workshop in Tampere with Nana & Laura, or Peace Star Azonto. The workshop will take place on Sunday, August 4th 2013 at 16.00 – 17.30.

Sabar dance / Liina, Malick & Ndiaw

Sabar dance classes will be held by three teachers!

On Thursday, August 1st 2013 at 14.00 – 16.00 we begin with sabar basics with Liina Halsti Ndiaye. After that, we will be ready to continue with the Senegalese dancers Malick Ndiaye and Ndiaw Macodou Samb, who will teach the sabar lessons from Friday to Sunday, August 2nd – 4th, Fri & Sat at 14.00 – 16.00 and Sun at 12.30 – 14.30.

If you’re not very familiar with the sabar yet, you should definitely come to the class on Thursday, where Liina will explain the movements and rhythms of sabar a bit more – but of course we will also dance, so that even people with more sabar experience will have enough to do! The other classes will have a faster pace, and will include choreographies to different sabar rhythms. You can participate on the days you want or on all days.

Here some excerpts from Malick and Liina’s sabar classes and performances in Helsinki:
