Venue:
Artteli, Mustanlahdenkatu 22, Tampere

Cheick Cissokho

Welcome to kora workshop at Fest Afrika! Kora is a beautifully voiced harp-like stringed instrument from West Africa, especially southern Senegal and the Gambia, where it is often used to accompany traditional songs. Many people heard Sona Jobarteh’s kora mastering at last year’s Fest Afrika, and this year there is once again an opportunity to get acquainted with this fascinating instrument by playing under the guidance of Cheick Cissokho. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who already play the kora – depending on your skills, you can play simpler or more complex patterns in the same piece. Please note that this is a two day course (2h + 2h).

There is a limited number of instruments available, so it is worth signing up in time! Please also let us know if you have your own kora and do not need to borrow an instrument for the duration of the course.
